We believe that nutrition is the key. You don’t always have influence over what affects your health. Kids keeping you up at night, losing a loved one, or stressful work deadlines… But at least you can have influence over food! Every day, at every meal, with every bite. Our cells are built from what we eat. Your hair, your nails, your skin, your organs, your body needs nutrients everywhere. You have probably already experienced that after a large Christmas dinner or a visit to the snackbar, you feel different than after a healthy light meal. Which meal you choose, which bite you take influences how your body functions, how it looks, and how you feel.
So what is the nutrition that makes you feel so radiant and energetic?
It sometimes seems that everyone has a different opinion on that. Not surprising, because everyone is different, everyone is unique, and everyone needs something just a bit different. But when we look more closely, we see that the basics are not that different from each other. Whether we look at what the Nutrition Center advises, what the paleo diet is based on, the Ayurveda, or other traditional Eastern eating habits.
It’s nothing new that we’re telling you. We might have just put it in a new jacket. And made it a bit attractive so you really feel like eating healthy. Just chewing on a lettuce leaf, even if that would make you young and happy, that’s not what we’re about. Life should remain enjoyable, right?
The foundation consists of fresh unprocessed products, as plant-based as possible. Additionally, what you see in nearly all (natural) nutrition advice and traditional eating habits is a form of detox. Detox means nothing more than providing the body with as many nutrients as possible in a form that is as easily absorbable as possible. While at the same time limiting the influx of harmful substances that the body can absorb as much as possible.

Detoxing, then
Yes, your body detoxes daily, it has ingenious mechanisms for that. We have a liver and kidneys that are constantly working on cleaning, intestines, and skin that excrete waste products. But by being aware of what enters your body, you can ensure that your body doesn’t have to work very hard just to function. Instead, energy is released. And energy can also be spent on (overdue) maintenance, renewal, and recovery. For your body, making your nails strong and your hair shiny might be less important than delivering nutrients to your bones and ensuring your organs function okay. Of course, we really appreciate it when that work is also being done. You don’t need an extreme detox cure for this. We’re not preaching that you can never eat unhealthy again or can’t party. But by consistently applying a few points in your lifestyle and eating habits, you can still experience the positive effects of such a detox daily.

The Green Happiness Daily Detox:
Daily Detox tip #1: Hydrate
Maybe an obvious point, but too important not to mention. Your cells need water! For energy, but also to safely remove waste products. So we can’t say it enough: drink plenty of water! And eat foods that contain water (fruits and vegetables, that is).
Start your day with at least half a liter of water (2 glasses). At night, the body is busy renewing and recovering. Waste products are released, they accumulate in the intestines. You don’t want those digested food residues and waste products to remain in the (warm) intestines for a long time, as those waste products can re-enter the bloodstream. The best way to remove them is via stools. To get the intestines running, they first need moisture!
Then, your intestines need fibers. One of the reasons we’re such fans of green smoothies at the start of the day! This is one of the easiest ways to get an extra portion of vegetables daily. And with that, a massive dose of vitamins and minerals. A green smoothie is ideal to start your day with, to gently get your body and intestines going. But also great in the afternoon as a snack for an energy boost and to tackle sweet cravings. Inspired to drink more smoothies? Try out these new smoothie combinations.
