A detox week is great. When done in a healthy way, it can be the perfect kickstart to a healthier eating pattern and the way to eliminate accumulated toxins. But how do you maintain your body daily? Exhaust fumes, cosmetic products, air fresheners, alcohol, slightly less healthy meals. We can’t avoid them. How do you ensure you can safely and healthily remove toxins? In this series of 5 Daily Detox tips, we share tools for every day. To hold on to that wonderful clean energetic feeling after your detox. Here comes number 5.
Daily Detox Tip #5: Low toxic load
Instead of only supporting your body as much as possible to eliminate toxins, you can also think about how to intake as little as possible. From the environment, exhaust fumes, pesticides, etc., we absorb a lot, especially when living in the city. When you drink water from plastic bottles, you also consume part of that plastic. Eating canned foods also brings some of those metals into the meal. And then there are, of course, various cleaning products, personal care products, and cosmetics through which various chemical substances can enter our bodies through the skin.
How many toxic substances are in the products you eat? The higher in the food chain, the more toxic substances. These are stored in fat cells, the safest place for your body. Think of fish. Fish are praised for their omega 3 fatty acids (essential fatty acids that are extremely important for, among other things, our brains and keeping the skin supple). But in the oceans, we find so much plastic and heavy metals nowadays that they are also stored in fat cells. Where does a fish get its omegas from? Algae/seaweed. We can get them from there too! So when supplementing, opt for algae oil instead of fish oil. And add some more chia & hemp seeds to your dishes.
The same goes for cows, for example. Just like us, a cow absorbs various toxins from the environment, its food, and bodily digestion processes. Where does a cow get its proteins? From plants! And we can do that too. The lower we eat in the food chain, the lower the toxic load. This also means that our bodies can process it more easily and that the kidneys and liver are spared. Which allows for more energy to be released and more work on your beauty!
